Ragi IDLI | Easy Breakfast RECIPE

RAGI IDLI

Ragi Idli the perfect alternative to the normal rice idlis if you want to switch to millets. Millets are super foods which must be included in our diet, but a lot of people have no idea about how they can make this wonderful grain a part of their regular diet. So here I am, with an amazing yet simple recipe which will leave you licking your fingers!

  • Ragi Idli Rava (1 cup)
  • Urad Dal (1/2 cup)
  • Water (as required)
  1. Soak ragi idli rava for 2 hours. In this recipe I have used Ragi Idli Rava by Eat Millet. You may use idli rava by any brand easily available to you, however, according to me this brand has the best product. I will leave a link below, you may purchase it if you want to.
  2. Wash and soak split urad dal for 2 hours. Grind the urad dal with minimum water into thick and smooth paste. Beat it for 2 minutes with a spoon in one direction. Whisking the lentil batter can be avoided if you are using a wet grinder to grind it as while using this equipment, entrains the air into batter naturally.
  3. Mix the ground lentil batter and soaked ragi idli rava and let it ferment for atleast 8-10 hours or overnight for best results.
  4. After fermentation, the batter rises to almost double in quantity. Add a little salt to the batter.
  5. Grease an idli plate and add 2 tablespoons of batter in each mould.
  6. In a steamer/cooker without whistle, heat water upto 1 inch level. Place the idli plate inside, cover and steam for 10-12 minutes.
  7. Switch off the flame and let it rest for 2 minutes. Open up the lid and remove the idlis on a plate with a help of a spoon.
  8. Serve hot with coconut chutney, sambar or choice of podi!

If wet grinder is available then use it for this recipe for better results.
Do not skip the fermentation step, otherwise the recipe won’t turn out good.
Add salt just before steaming the idlis.
You can store this batter for upto 3 days in refrigerator.

THE GREAT KABAB FACTORY | DINING EXPERIENCE

The Great Kabab Factory
The Great Kabab Factory ( INR 5000 for two – approx.)

The Great Kabab Factory is an Indian speciality restaurant which brings the buffet experience to your table. Restaurant serves the set menu in both vegetarian and non – vegetarian option. They claim to own the bank of 450+ authentic kabab recipes from all over the world.

AMBIENCE

Ambience of this place truly matches it’s name ” The Great Kabab Factory”. Dim lights and brick wall finish gives it a factory sort of vibe. Furniture is quite minimalistic which compliments the interiors. Long curtains in royal blue color draped over huge windows adds the royal charm which a fine dining restaurant must have.

OUR BEST PICK

Kabab

Veg. Galouti Kabab with Ulte Tawe ka Paratha
Veg. Galouti Kabab with Ulte Tawe ka Paratha

This was the first starter from the set menu and we absolutely loved it. Soft and succulent Veg. Galouti Kabab has a melt in mouth texture. Ulte Tawe ka Paratha takes it to another level by adding the much needed crunch and bite. Paratha is crisp and kabab is super soft making it the perfect accompaniment for each other. Kabab has a spicy after taste which adds the kick. Add some onion slices, green chutney and hung yoghurt dip to enjoy all the flavours at the same time.

A no. of delicious kababs were served after this, but this is something which we won’t forget.

Main Course

Main course at THE GREAT KABAB FACTORY
Main Course at THE GREAT KABAB FACTORY

We were already full by savouring the tempting kababs but couldn’t resist the main course at this place.

From the Indian breads section we opted for “Laccha Paratha”. In curries, we had two options – “Mutter Mushroom and Shahi Paneer”. Being a mushroom lover, I decided to go with it. We preferred “Dal Factory” over “Dal Tadka” as it is the speciality of the place. Dal Factory is dal makhni to which the restaurant adds the special touch.

” Subz Biryani” served here is made with the best quality long grain basmati rice. Assortment of garden fresh vegetables and selection of whole spices is what works with the rice to make this recipe heavenly. Biryani is accompanied by “Boondi Raita” which is a treat on it’s own.

Dessert

Kesar Badam Kulfi at RADISSON BLU PLAZA
Kesar Badam Kulfi

Kesar Badam Kulfi was definitely the star in the dessert section. Although, I am not a big fan of kulfi but trying this, made me one. Kesar Badam Kulfi is made by simmering the milk flavoured with badam and Kesar on low flame. Milk is stirred continuously at low flame until it’s quantity gets reduced to half. The reduced milk is then poured into moulds and frozen until set.

Kulfi was loaded with almonds which can be tasted in every bite. Kesar adds nice color and fragrance. We would prefer this indian delight over other ice creams any day. A no. of desserts such as pan ice cream , rabdi – jalebi and kesar halwa were served as well.

The meal ended with “Pan” which is an Indian mouth freshener. Not only it makes the breath fresh after a meal but also helps in digestion and prevents diseases like diabetes.

Our best pick

Pizza
Pizza Primevera
Farmhouse Pizza
Pizza Primevera ( INR. 650+ taxes)

Being a true lover of Italian cuisine I could not resist myself from ordering pizza after looking at the pizza section on the menu. They serve variety of thin crust pizza with different toppings. You can always request to get customized topping for as customer satisfaction is their priority.

We ordered pizza primevera, which has a thin crust base loaded with a selection of vegetables. Fermented all-purpose flour is stretched and slathered with marinara sauce made with premium quality tomatoes and herbs. A generous helping of fresh mozerella cheese is then added over the sauce. Stretched dough is finally topped with bell peppers, mushrooms, olive, onions and jalapenos which adds color to the classic tomato sauce and cheese combination. It is the baked in a pre-heated oven until cheese melts and base becomes crisp.

Stringy and gooey cheese holds the vegetables together and streches upon biting into the pizza. Pizza seasoning and red chilli flakes are served on the side so that you can add same as per your liking.

Fresh vegetables as topping on the pizza makes up for all the junk food indulgence. On the side, we opted for the regular diet soda. Although, a variety of refreshing drinks are available to choose from. They also serve alcoholic drinks and you may order the same if age permits.

Our experience at this place was amazing. Delicious food and heart-warming hospitality is all what we crave for and this is one of those place where you can experience it. If you are travelling anywhere near East Delhi, then this place definitely deserves a visit!

Mein kun | THE Leela ambience convention hotel

Mein Kun is the pan asian dining restaurant at The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel. This 5 star property is located in East Delhi. Know more about this place below.

Mein Kun
Mein Kun, The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel

Mein kun, The pan asian dining restaurant

The ultimate place to visit for pan asian food lovers. Authentic oriental cuisine served here is made with the premium quality ingredients which are sourced from the east asian countries.

Opening time is only from 7:00 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Reservations can be made via local dining apps or through direct email to hotel.

Our experience

We tried this place ago few months ago, on our staycation at The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel.

We were craving for some light snacks for dinner as the lunch buffet at Cafe Knosh kept us full till late evening. As this place only open up for dinner, it was the perfect time explore some authentic oriental snacks. Mein Kun is right adjacent to the Cafe Knosh.

Ambience

As soon as you enter, you can see the statue of Lord Buddha which is absolutely adorable and would attract your attention for a while. People loved getting photographed beside this statue. This place has 3 sections, first is the waiting area where the statue of Lord Buddha is placed, second is the common dining area and third is for private gathering which can be booked for parties. Each section is divided by the heavy wooden partitions with detailed carvings. Interiors of this place are worth appreciation. Yellow lights , heavy chandeliers and walls studded with beautiful artefacts makes this place look like a dining hall of a royal palace.

food

Mock meat spring rolls, ( INR. 750)

For appetizer we ordered the mock meat spring rolls. Spring rolls are always the first choice for me when ordering appetizers from the pan asian section. They are crunchy, juicy and delicious! They had the mock meat spring rolls in the menu which is a good choice if you are vegetarian like me. Mock meat is made with soyabean. It’s texture is almost like meat but it is 100% plant based. Small chunks of mock meat seasoned with oriental spices are tossed with juliennes of garden fresh vegetables and rolled in wonton wrappers. Wonton rolls are then deep fried until golden and served with sweet chilli sauce.

Wok Tossed Noodles ( INR. 650)

For main course we ordered “Wok Tossed Noodles” from their noodles section. Thin stringy and bouncy noodles tossed in a wok , Hakka style with a lot of fresh vegetables is a true delight. They accompanied with variety of sauces which you can add to your noodles as per your liking. I like spicy food so I added generous amount of red chilli sauce, if you like it on the tangier side then pickled ginger would be your best choice.

We were completely full by the time we finished both the dishes, so we decided to skip the dessert.
